My Panama Rose, or Rondeletia leucophylla, is making itself be noticed now. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that it was going to be blooming soon. It will be covered in happy pink clusters of flowers from now until April or May unless we have a really cold spell, then it will take a break. The butterflies love these flowers during our winter months.

This bush has been in the ground for two or three years. I'm in USDA Zone 9b so I'm pushing the limits a bit with the Panama Rose, it is recommended for Zones 10b-11.

I don't do anything special for this bush, I shoot it a bit of water during our really dry times but nothing special. It might get fertilized once a year or so. That's it. I haven't cut it back at all since I bought it and it seems to be kind of a slow grower. It was probably a foot tall when I got it and now it's between 3 and 4 feet high. They can get 12-15 feet high but I don't expect it to get that big in my zone.

This one gets full sun and it seems happy with that. They can be planted in partial shade as well. I've read that they are easy to propagate but I haven't tried it yet.

This was a clearance sale experiment that turned out really nice.

Good morning ladies!
Darla, the update is at the bottm of that post, just under the picture. It's a grapeleaf skeletonizer caterpillar. I'd never heard of it before but I've seen the moths.
Pretty! I think I want one for my Florida garden too :-)
The gr8 thing abut rose is it is available in so many colours; in addition to red it is available in many other colours

I found out I have this growing when seeing pictures in Eli Hart's blog. I did not know what this was, bought it a LONG time ago. When I googled it, up came this post of yours.
