Remember the other day when my daughter and I found 12 monarch caterpillars on the milkweed plants? Well, we put them in an ice cream bucket, covered it with screen and fed them and fed them and fed them. My goodness they are EATERS! My milkweed plants were stripped almost bare I was sweating it, thinking I would have to go to Home Depot in search of more milkweed plants. Yesterday, 11 of the 12 caterpillars travelled to the screen that was covering the top of the bucket and the 12th one needed some alone time so it travelled to the top of a stick that we had placed in the bucket. They each made a silky mat and attached their bottoms to the screen (or stick) and they hung in a "J" position until I went to bed. When I got up, they had all transformed into this:

With the jade color of the chrysalides (that's the plural of chrysalis, I had to look it up!) and the gold flecks, goodness gracious THIS is one of nature's wonders that everyone should witness.
Oh, my 6 yr old daughter took the last picture. Not too bad, eh?
Happy Gardening!
